STICK TO YOUR GUNS

We all set goals for ourselves and fitness/weight-loss goals seem to be the ones we hear about the most.  Working out isn't always the worst feeling activity in the world, but obstacles can frequently arise and we can seem to continue to find excuse why we can't go.  Here are a couple tips to make sure you can fit your workout (or any other goal) into your day and make it happen:

  • Make it fun!  If you enjoy the activity you're doing, you're more likely to do it.  Make your exercise something you find fun.  For some it can be a sport, others would prefer to hike, and a few prefer some kind of dance class.  Make it fun for YOU.
  • Bring your friends.  Friends will make your exercise more enjoyable, they can be supportive, and help hold you accountable.
  • Make it fit into your life.  The best way to make your workout happen is to schedule it at a time you KNOW will be easy to fit and would have minimal interruptions.  If you use a planner or online calendar, schedule it into your day.
  • Set goals.  Not having goals is like driving a car without a map or destination.  If you don't know where you're going, how will you know when you got there? Also, the sense of achievement will give you a boost of confidence and encourage your to pursue the next goal.  Remember:  make your goals reasonable and in a realistic timeframe.
  • Start small.  Keeping your workouts short and sweet is a great way to start your road to a better you.  If you can't squeeze an hour workout into your day, why not do a 30minute or 15minute workout?
  • Reward yourself.  Where's the fun in all work and no play?  Give yourself a reward each time you reach a milestone or short term goal.  A cheat meal, a new piece of clothing (to better fit the new, fitter you), an episode of your favorite TV show, etc.  Just remember not to go overboard if you choose a cheat meal.
